The word hustle takes on a new meaning with two female con artists who are out to swindle men of their money. Both ladies from two different parts of the world and in utter contrast to each other combine to make a team in this laugh riot: The Hustle.

Beautiful, poised and glamorous Josephine Chesterfield played by Anne Hathaway makes her living by defrauding wealthy men. Her modus operandi? Defraud by either playing the dumb bimbette or the damsel in distress, as the situation demands of her. She leads an envious life in a gorgeous villa on the French Riviera. Her life and moves with men are well planned, organized and laid out well in advance with the help of her team of trusted confidants. This British bombshell acts alone.

Fat, clumsy, fun loving and the total antithesis of sophistication is Penny Rust played by Rebel Wilson. She comes from down under, the land of kangaroos and koalas. She makes small money by swindling your average joe that haunts tinder and other ‘desperate to get laid’ apps. This small timer acts alone as well, but without a team of trusted confidants.

Both con women meet on a train to the French Riviera and end up working together for a while till things go well for each of them. After their partnership breaks, they then try and outwit each other as warring cons. Their target is a young, handsome and naive internet billionaire much like a dumbed down version of Zuckerberg. The internet billionaire Thomas Westerburg is played by Alex Sharp.

There are a few twists to the comic tale and a mystery called Medusa who is the con woman supreme. The movie is hilarious from the get go. You will laugh through endless stupidity, silliness and slapstick comedy. It does not require you to operate your grey cells and your brain can be given a rest.

The Hustle could be dubbed the female version of the 1988 American movie ‘Dirty Rotten Scoundrels‘. In this American comedy film starring Steve Martin, Michael Caine, and Glenne Headly, wealthy women were being conned by men. Oscar winner Stanley Shapiro is the writer of this both these films along with Oscar winner Paul Henning and Dale Launer.

The Hustle is director Chris Addison’s debut film. Rebel Wilson, the Australian con woman, is also a producer of the film.
