The insensitiveness and indiscrimination of landlords to rent apartments to women is not a new story to the female resident of India.

Being personally hit by such comments in many occassions in my own life, I recently related the same agony when I read about this Muslim boy named Ansar Ahmad Sheikh yesterday.

This USPC qualifying student ranking all over India at 361 was compelled to change his name to Shubham when he wanted to rent a PG stay in Pune. This trending event spread like fire in the Social Media and many of us can relate equally to what this chap went through.

Well, it happens only in India !

Inspite of outrageous stands taken and voices raised against indiscrimination of any kind, the country still keeps pushing the minorities lower.

Ansar Ahmad Sheikh, the young 21 years old talented Indian has defied all the odds by topping the Union Public Service Commission examinations declared on May 9th, Tuesday. His 13 hours daily dedication towards academics made him get the top ranks right on the first attempts. Bonus was the support he received from his brother and family.

The story of this boy is not all glam and happy. He has spent his childgood in a village which is hit by draught. His father, an auto rickshaw driver had three wives. His days made him witness violence at home and an early marriage of his sisters due to poverty.

All  these made Ansar strengthen his determination and gave his 100% focus towards his studies. The small boy while growing up soon realized that it is with power and only with power he can contribute and change the mindset of the society.

He proudly announces his name today in front of the entire world to be “Sheikh” and definitely not “Shubham”. Ansar is determined to help fellow sufferers like himself in the near future.

It is an irony that still today for getting basic educational rights citizens here have to change their birth names. This event clearly shows what is the state of the mindset prevailing in our story.
