My Story : Panchkula Riot for Rapist Baba Gurmeet of Dera Sacha Sauda

I was locked this weekend!!

A lot of judgements have made quite a stir in our nation, be it Right to Privacy judgement or the Triple Talaq judgement. But the conviction of Gurmeet Ram Rahim Insaan in the 15 years old rape case particularly created a lot of trouble in approximately 5 lakh lives. Not to mention the stuck life of other 20 lakh people who were stranded in the Panchkula of Chandigarh Tricity.

I woke up to a noise of a huge group of girls rushing to the TV room on 24th August 2017 which was a Friday. Unaware of the reason for the holiday I put a pillow on my head and snored away to glory.

Fast forward to 3 o’ clock in the afternoon, my room- mate came rushing towards me shouting “he got convicted! he got convicted!”.

I gave her a cross look and buried my head in my phone until my Facebook page started flooding with Ram Rahim’s conviction of the rape he had done and in turn the Hell which had frozen over his followers.

Two tear gas shell was thrown! Water Cannon being used! Internet shut down! SMS shut down!

Panchkula Riot : A total block out

For 72 hours, the Panchkula and Chandigarh Tricity was on a network block out, because 5 Lakh people believed that their Baba could do nothing wrong. My college was at a lock down that is to say no person could go out or come in for security reasons.

We thanked the college Wifi and somehow succumbed through the weekend without any outing or internet.

Going through this plight it made me think about the mentality of the people.

All of the followers were swamped on the pedestrians and city parks. openly defecating and seldomly eating and totally living on the roads.

The town park in Panchkula smelled of human waste( of all forms). Imagine 5 lakh people had come down on the road and displaying their wrath.

A curfew was imposed because the authorities feared violence. For two working days, all education institutions and workplaces were shut down.

Why? Because a small population of people believed there was nothing wrong with Baba for ‘pardoning’ his female followers through sexual assault.

Actually, this time the state has succeeded

The daughters of India had won. The Judiciary gave a judgement which wasn’t expected. It was the people and their mentality which had failed. They were rioting for a rapist.
