2nd Phase of Odd Even : Is India Really Serious

2nd Phase of Odd Even formula is going to start from 15th April 2016. Like previous trial, this time also it will be implemented for 15 days.

Increased pollution level has forced government to take such steps. During first phase in January, there was hardly any impact on pollution level but due to reduced cars, traffic congestion was much less throughout the day.

Conditions for 2nd Phase of Odd Even

1. Second Phase will run between from 15th April to 30th April 2016.
2. Rule will be applicable for private car running in Delhi.
3. Cars having odd number will run on days having odd date while car with even number can run on even date.
4. Women driver, CNG cars, commercial vehicles and two wheeler will again remain exempted.
5. Cars carrying school children will also be exempted.

Delhi is one of most polluted of all the cities in the entire world. The ever growing population in a haphazard manner has impacted the rise in the pollution levels to a great extent. Such steps are necessity of the time, but are they enough? Is government and citizen are serious enough and doing everything to curb pollution and make their environment safe?

This is not story of only one city, whole country and most of the countries are going thru this challenge.

What Government should do to Curb Pollution

1. Factories should be Moved Out of Residential Area

Studies show that a majority of the factories and industries are located right in the middle of residential and commercial regions here and it is only 20% which are located in approved areas.

2. Controlling Hazardous Emission From Factories and Households

Though rules are there, but they are hardly followed. Factories don’t follow guidelines and continues to pollute air, water and soil by emitting hazardous elements in the environment.
Government should implement rules strictly, but seems corruption have upper hand on social issues.

The garbage and sewage are still getting dumped in the water bodies. This should be stopped on immediate basis.

3. More Public Transport

Government of Delhi is continuously trying to upgrade public transport. But it seems its always behind in filling demand and supply gap. Recently government has brought more electric buses but seems number is not enough.

4. Proper Waste Management

Government should put more different colored dustbins throughout the city so that bio-degradable waste, recyclable waste and non recyclable waste can be separated easily.

Government should also run awareness program among citizen.

5. Restriction on Private Vehicles

• Government should bring in policy to discourage multiple vehicles (both 2 and 4 wheeler) in a family by hiking taxes on 2nd and more vehicles.
• Odd even should cover all type of vehicles, and there should not be any exemption based on gender.
• Sale of diesel car should be stopped irrespective of engine power. Recently Delhi High Court has stopped sale of diesel car having engine power of 2000 cc or more.

6. Say No To Plastic Bags & Bottles

Not only use but manufacturing of plastic bags and water bottles should be stopped.

What Citizen should do

Only government is not responsible to curb pollution. Citizen has to understand their duty too. As pollution is directly affecting their and their dear one’s life.

1. Citizen should not burn any waste.
2. They should use separate dustbins for bio-degradable, recyclable and non recyclable waste.
3. Vehicle should be serviced on time to ensure it less pollute our environment.
4. Vehicle ignition should be switched off on long red lights or in traffic jams.
5. Car pool should be done for commuting to the work. It will not only reduce emission, but will save lots of money.
6. Plant more trees. Trees are life line for our environment.
7. Carry jute / cloth bag while going for shopping.
