Success and failures are our tests of willpower, and after some time, we take failures on the heart and the hope seems to go down the hill.
“Win as if you were used to it, lose as if you enjoyed it for a change.”
– Ralph Waldo Emerson
How inspiring it sounds, doesn’t it? But these inspirational quotes seem mere words when you face a real problem. Isn’t it so?
Even doctors say that if an adult and a child experience the same fatal accident and are in the same critical condition, there is a really high probability that the child will get better sooner than the adult. The reason being adults lose hope and start to think negatively.
It’s easy to understand the situation negatively and think of a negative scenario, but we need to put in efforts to think optimistically and stick to that thought process. Why so? Why can’t we make the best out the worst? Why do we need to lose heart? Just think of those who don’t have even the opportunities that you have.
Here are some of the most incredible success stories which will definitely inspire you to come out of your failures.
Determination, Will-Power, and Success of Arunima Sinha
Arunima was a seven-time volleyball player in the Indian national team. At the age of 22, she was thrown out of the moving train. Due to this, her left leg has to be amputated below the knee. She got multiple fractures in her spinal cord.
She lost all her hopes of representing India in volleyball. But she didn’t lose her hope to live. She decided to become a mountaineer.
With her sheer determination and willpower, she became World’s first female amputee to scale Mount Everest, Mount Kilimanjaro (Tanzania), Mount Elbrus (Russia), Mount Kosciusko (Australia), Mount Aconcagua (South America), Carstensz Pyramid (Indonesia) and Mount Vinson (Source: Wikipedia).
Incredible Success Story of Karoly Takacs
You know what, Karoly Takacs who was the best pistol shooter but life had some other plans for him. Karoly initially was denied a place in the Hungarian shooting team for Berlin Olympics 1936 on the grounds that he was a sergeant. So he thought of winning it in 1940, however, an unfortunate thing happened when a hand grenade exploded in his right hand… his shooting hand. He lost it.
So was the dream of winning the Olympics. But circumstances couldn’t pull this winner down. He knew life never serves anything on platter; you need to work hard to earn it and put your favorites on the platter. So he started training with his only hand left, for the 1940 Olympics.
When he arrived at Hungarian National Pistol Shooting Championship in 1939, everyone sympathized with him and thought he was there to cheer. But Karoly Takacs declared, “I didn’t come to watch, I came to compete”.
So, he came, he saw and he conquered. The next two Olympics were canceled due to world war. He thought he will never get a chance to win in the Olympics and life was testing his willpower.
Little did he know that life was giving him more chances, to practice more. In 1948, he won the gold medal and set a new world record for pistol shooting and again won gold in 1952.
“If you are brave enough to say goodbye, life will reward you with a new hello”.

Heather Dorniden – She won despite the fall
Despondency will take you nowhere. Even when you fall on your face during one of the most important races of your life.
If Heather Dorniden had considered her fall in the 2008 Big 10 Indoor Track Championship, to be the end then maybe it would have been the end for her. But she considered this fall as a mere speed breaker on the road and ran fast to win it at the end.
Accept this that, “if you want to see a rainbow, you have to learn to see the rain”.
as Paulo Coehlo says
So just pull your socks up, let the failures come, wink at them and bid them adieu to achieve the success. You can do it. So just do, don’t give yourself excuses to sit in the corner to cry. Show that failure that you are made of steel, not gold that will get dented by just one stroke. Nobody can break you, till the time you want to.
