Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shashtri passed away a day after signing the Tashkent Treaty on 10th January 1966. The Tashkent Declaration was an attempt to bring peace between India and Pakistan after the 1965 war.

To this date the reason of his death is unknown. Some say it was a heart attack, others suspect that PM Shashtri was poisoned. No post mortem was conducted even after repeated requests from his family members. In fact, his cremation was a hasty one too.

This all lead to the conspiracy theory believing that PM Shashtri was murdered. The details of his death remain a mystery as the Government had refused to unveil the circumstances of his death; on the pretext of spoiling international relations.
