An emotional Smriti Irani hits out at the opposition for targeting her on the suicide of Hyderabad research student Rohith Vemula last month.
While rubbishing allegations, she said that she is being targeted because she fought election against Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi
During her 50 minutes speech, Ms. Irani replied aggressively to opposition’s allegation.
HRD Minister Smriti Irani listed point by point about events occurred post Rohith Vemula’s suicide. She mentioned that, “In his suicide note, Rohith Vemula said no one was responsible for his death”.
She further added that his body was used as a political tool.
When Rohith was found dead, no attempt was made to take his body to the hospital.
Ms. Irani asked, “Have you ever seen Rahul Gandhi go to one spot twice? No, he saw political opportunity in Hyderabad University campus”.
She challenged opposition asking her about her caste. She said, “I am Smriti Irani. I challenge you to ask my caste”.
Ms. Irani alleged, “Mujhe suli pe chadhaya jaa raha hai kyunki mere vibhaag ne patra likha (I am being targeted because my department wrote the letter)”.
She further added that she is obliged to respond to a letter written by MPs; be he is from ruling party or opposition.
On JNU row, Ms. Irani said that Omar Khaled misled JNU administration. He applied for organising an event for poetry reading. But instead of that he was involved into anti national activities.
